Installment Loans in Colorado

Colorado installment lending is governed by the UCCC supervised-loan framework. Within PLS Cash Advance’s $500–$5,000 routing range, ordinary supervised loans can use statutory tiered rates or a 21% whole-balance alternative, while a separate small-installment alternative-charge structure exists for qualifying smaller loans.

Amount and term limits

Colorado’s supervised-loan framework is broader than the current PLS Cash Advance selector. This guide focuses on the $500–$5,000 routing range and does not treat $5,000 as a statutory maximum.

The UCCC does not impose one universal term for every supervised installment loan in the $500–$5,000 range. Small alternative-charge loans have their own term and installment rules, while ordinary supervised loans use the contract subject to the UCCC.

Interest, fees and repayment

For ordinary supervised loans, the UCCC permits the greater of either a tiered actuarial rate of 36% on the first $1,000 of unpaid balance, 21% on the portion above $1,000 through $3,000, and 15% above $3,000, or 21% per year on the whole unpaid balance.

Colorado also permits a separate alternative-charge structure for certain small installment loans, with an acquisition charge and monthly handling charges subject to statutory limits. That structure is distinct from the ordinary supervised-loan rate method.

Repayment depends on the supervised-loan structure. Colorado’s separate small-installment alternative-charge regime requires substantially equal installments, while ordinary supervised loans follow the applicable UCCC contract rules.

Principal bandMaximum annual interest rate
$0–$1,000 36%
$1,000–$3,000 21%
Over $3,000 15%

Rollovers, refinancing and early payment

Rollover allowed?
Not reduced to a yes/no rule
The supervised-loan framework uses refinancing rules rather than a payday-style rollover concept, so this page does not reduce refinancing to one yes/no field.
Prepayment penalty allowed?
No
Colorado UCCC consumer-loan provisions generally permit prepayment without penalty; the exact refund/charge treatment depends on the loan structure.

Colorado borrower protections

  • The Colorado UCCC sets maximum rates and charges and requires cost-of-credit disclosures.
  • A supervised lender generally needs a Colorado Supervised Lender license.
  • Ordinary supervised-loan finance charges are limited by the statutory rate alternatives.
  • Colorado also regulates a separate small-installment alternative-charge structure rather than allowing unlimited add-on fees.
  • Consumers can search Colorado Consumer Credit Unit license-holder reports.

Colorado loan cost calculator

Why there is no single statutory calculator: Colorado supports more than one supervised-loan pricing method: an ordinary rate structure with an alternative 21% whole-balance ceiling and a separate small-loan alternative-charge regime. A single calculator would incorrectly collapse those paths.
