Installment Loans in Texas

Texas installment loans can fall under Chapter 342 consumer-loan rules. The two important non-real-property structures for this guide are Subchapter E personal/secured consumer loans and Subchapter F signature/small installment loans, which use different amount, rate, fee, and term rules.

Choose a loan type by amount

PLS Cash Advance currently presents request amounts from $200 to $5,000. The ranges below are navigation guidance between our state loan guides — not statutory limits, eligibility rules, or a promise of approval.

Installment Loans in Texas

Preferred site routing for larger multi-payment requests. Texas Chapter 342 contains several installment-loan structures, including structures that can cover amounts in this range.

Amount and term limits

Texas Chapter 342 contains more than one installment-loan structure, so there is no single maximum amount for the whole category. For loans made July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the adjusted Subchapter F ceilings are $920 under §342.251 and up to $1,840 for the larger-advance structure under §342.259. Subchapter E can cover larger consumer loans and does not use that same small-loan ceiling.

There is no single term limit across all Chapter 342 installment loans. Subchapter F uses an amount-dependent statutory maximum term under §342.255; OCCC reports Subchapter E loans can extend 60 months or longer.

Interest, fees and repayment

For a common Subchapter E method under §342.201(e), current brackets for loans made July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 are 30% annually on the first $4,600, 24% on the portion above $4,600 through $9,660, and 18% on the portion above $9,660 through $23,000. Other authorized methods can apply. Subchapter F instead uses acquisition and installment-account-handling charges.

Chapter 342 authorizes several different pricing methods. Current annual bracket and fee adjustments are published by the OCCC and change on a scheduled basis.

Chapter 342 installment schedules depend on the selected statutory method and contract. Subchapter F provides specific maximum-term and installment-account-handling rules; Subchapter E supports regular or irregular installment structures under its authorized interest methods.

Rollovers, refinancing and early payment

Rollover allowed?
Not reduced to a yes/no rule
“Rollover” is primarily payday-loan terminology. Chapter 342 has separate rules for refinancing, deferment, default, and refunds, so this page does not reduce them to one rollover yes/no field.
Prepayment penalty allowed?
No
OCCC describes prepayment as permitted for both 342-E and 342-F consumer loans. The exact refund/interest treatment depends on the statutory method and contract.

Texas borrower protections

  • Non-depository regulated lenders making covered Chapter 342 consumer loans above 10% interest must be licensed by the OCCC.
  • Texas adjusts statutory rate brackets and certain maximum fee amounts annually; the current July 2026–June 2027 values should not be reused after their effective period without re-verification.
  • Chapter 342 plain-language contract rules apply to regulated consumer loans, and OCCC provides model contract provisions for both 342-E and 342-F loans.

Texas loan cost calculator

Why there is no single statutory calculator: Texas Chapter 342 offers multiple lawful pricing structures, and the applicable brackets and fee ceilings are periodically adjusted. A single APR-input calculator would imply that one method governs every Texas installment loan, so this page shows the verified statutory frameworks instead of producing a potentially misleading compliance figure.
