Amount and term limits

A licensee may hold no more than two checks from the same maker at one time, and the aggregate face amount of those checks may not exceed $500. Because the statutory ceiling is check face amount, it should not be read as a promise that $500 in cash proceeds is available.

A delayed-deposit check may not be held for more than 31 days.

Interest, fees and repayment

Iowa uses a statutory transaction-fee schedule rather than one flat APR ceiling. The agreement must disclose the fee and APR.

Maximum fee: $15 on the first $100 of check face amount and $10 on each subsequent $100 increment, prorated for partial increments.

The transaction is ordinarily completed when the check is deposited/collected or the obligation is otherwise paid at maturity.

Rollovers, refinancing and early payment

Rollover allowed?
No
A licensee may not repay, refinance, or consolidate a postdated-check transaction with proceeds of another postdated-check transaction made by the same licensee.
Prepayment penalty allowed?
Not reduced to a yes/no rule
No separate universal prepayment-penalty flag is encoded for this delayed-deposit product from the cited sections.

Iowa borrower protections

  • No more than two delayed-deposit checks from the same maker may be held at one time.
  • Aggregate check face amount may not exceed $500.
  • The check may not be held for more than 31 days.
  • The statutory fee schedule is capped at $15 on the first $100 and $10 per subsequent $100 increment, prorated as required.
  • Same-licensee refinancing through another delayed-deposit transaction is prohibited.

Iowa loan cost calculator

Why there is no single statutory calculator: Although Iowa has a fee schedule, the $500 ceiling is an aggregate check-face rule and borrower-level transaction details matter. No new state-specific calculator engine is introduced in this release.
