Amount and term limits

Kansas permits the special payday-loan charge structure only when the cash advance is $500 or less and the other statutory payday conditions are satisfied.

The payday-loan term must be at least 7 days and no more than 30 days.

Interest, fees and repayment

The 15% charge is the statutory ceiling for the qualifying payday transaction. The page does not treat that ceiling as typical lender pricing.

The lender may charge no more than 15% of the cash advance under K.S.A. 16a-2-404. After maturity, the contract rate may not exceed 3% per month of the loan proceeds.

The original transaction anticipates a single payment. An eligible consumer who cannot repay when due may elect an extended payment plan once every 12 months, requested before the due date, with at least four substantially equal installments and no additional interest or fees while the plan is honored.

Rollovers, refinancing and early payment

No
A payday loan may not be repaid with proceeds of another payday loan from the same lender or related interest. Kansas also limits concurrent and recent payday transactions.

A consumer may prepay an extended payment plan in full at any time without penalty.
