Amount and term limits

The aggregate face amount of delayed-deposit checks may not exceed $500. Because the fee is included in the check face amount, the Mississippi DBCF consumer pamphlet states that the maximum cash amount a customer can receive is $410.

For a check with face amount up to $250, deposit may be delayed for up to 30 days. For a check over $250 through $500, the written transaction term is at least 28 days and not more than 30 days.

Interest, fees and repayment

Mississippi uses amount-based delayed-deposit fees. The fee must also be disclosed as an APR, but the statutory rule itself is a transaction-fee schedule.

Maximum fee is $20 per $100 advanced for checks of $250 or less and $21.95 per $100 advanced for checks over $250.

The delayed-deposit check must be deposited or the check face value paid in full before another delayed-deposit transaction may be entered.

Rollovers, refinancing and early payment

Rollover allowed?
No
Mississippi prohibits accepting a fee to renew or extend a delayed-deposit transaction. The transaction must be paid in full rather than rolled over by paying another fee.
Prepayment penalty allowed?
Not reduced to a yes/no rule
No separate universal prepayment-penalty flag is encoded from the cited Check Cashers Act materials.

Mississippi borrower protections

  • Aggregate delayed-deposit check face amount may not exceed $500.
  • DBCF consumer guidance states the maximum cash amount advanced is $410 because fees count toward the check face amount.
  • Transactions run no more than 30 days; checks over $250 use a 28–30 day term.
  • Fees are capped by amount band: $20 or $21.95 per $100 advanced.
  • Fee-only renewal/extension is prohibited; the transaction must be paid in full.

Mississippi loan cost calculator

Why there is no single statutory calculator: The legal ceiling is a $500 check-face amount while maximum cash proceeds are lower because fees are included, and two fee bands apply. A new dedicated calculator is not necessary for this rollout.
